Mitchell County CSE in the News
The Mitchell County CSE was organized early in 2001 after an unfair
re-evaluation of property. It didn't take us long to learn that unfair
property taxes was only a drop in the bucket to what was going on in our
county and in our state. Since that time we have grown to become the
largest county chapter in North Carolina with over 1200 members with State
and National recognition.
In Raleigh
On June 5th, 2002 the Mitchell County CSE received the North Carolina CSE
Outstanding Chapter Award in Raleigh during the CSE Day at the Capitol.
As a result of our commitment to lower taxes, less government and more
property rights we were able to recruit expert speakers in many different
fields such as property rights, buffers, forestry, taxes and zoning to
speak at our monthly meetings.
In Raleigh on April 15th, 2003 the Mitchell County CSE received the
highest award presented to a county chapter in North Carolina The E. A.
Morris Award.
In Washington
On May 6th, 2003 leaders of the Mitchell County CSE along with other
county chapter leaders were invited to Washington to meet with President
George W. Bush in support of his tax relief plan. We met with him at the
US Chamber of Commerce. The president spoke with us for approximately 40
minutes which was carried live on Fox News, C-Span and several local TV
stations. He told us that not only the people in this room can make a
difference but the people that are listening all across the country can
make a difference. After his speech he stepped down from the podium and
greeted each of the Mitchell County CSE members personally.
From there we proceeded to the senate building on Capitol Hill where we
took part in a rally for tax relief. There, House and Senate Leadership
spoke on the need for tax relief and the need to pass the tax cut bill in
Congress. On that day in Washington, because of CSE, the leaders of our
country heard from regular everyday people, the ones that are paying the
taxes. Although we didn't get all that we wanted in the tax bill, it
passed and Mitchell County CSE had a part in getting it through Congress.
We have been asked to return to Washington the 9th and 10th of September
this year. All CSE members that would like to make the trip are invited.
Special Guest Speaker
State Representative Mrs. Connie Wilson of Mecklenburg County will be our
guest speaker Aug. 5th, 7 pm at the new courthouse in Bakersville. Her
specialty is Jobs and Industry in North Carolina. Learn what could have
been done to prevent job loses in North Carolina and what can be done to
bring jobs back. Everyone is invited to attend.
Other Scheduled Speakers
Coming in September: Director of the NC Educational
Alliance from the John Lock Foundation, Lyndalyn Kadelis
Coming Later This Year
United States Secretary of Agriculture, Ann M. Veneman
Become a Member of Mitchell County CSE
If you are interested in the future of Mitchell County consider becoming a
member of the Mitchell County CSE, (Citizens for a Sound Economy). We are
a non-partisan, non-profit organization working for the benefit of every
taxpayer. There is no membership fee. Mitchell County is facing some
critical financial situations in the near future, including the jail. We
can sit on the stool of do-nothing and get another big tax increase. We
have been, and we are making a difference, let your voice be heard where
it counts, in front of our county officials, not in the local restaurant,
church or on the street corner where everybody knows what to do but are
doing nothing. Enough people standing together can change anything.
Membership applications will be available at the Aug 5th meeting. For more
information call 688-4997 or 688-4411
